Circuit Judge Kelly Luther to take oath Jan. 6 in Ripley

Newly elected Third District Circuit Judge Kelly Luther will take the oath of office in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Tippah County Courthouse in Ripley.

Retiring Circuit Judge Robert W. Elliott will administer the oath of office. Circuit Judge Jim Roberts of Pontotoc will be the guest speaker.

Judge Luther is Judge Elliott’s successor. Judge Elliott, who served for eight years on the bench, did not seek reelection. Trial court judges are elected to four-year terms.

The Third Circuit District includes Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Lafayette, Marshall, Tippah and Union counties.

Judge Luther served as an assistant district attorney for 19 years. He previously served as County Attorney for Pontotoc County, and as city judge for Pontotoc.

He graduated from Pontotoc High School and attended Itawamba Junior College. He is a graduate of Mississippi State University, and earned a law degree from University of Mississippi School of Law.

Judge Luther lives in the Shady Grove Community of Tippah County and attends Whittentown Baptist Church. He has two children, ages 19 and 22.
